Routeburn Track: New Zealand

Tramping… New Zealand’s word for backpacking and hiking. This tromp (not sure if I used this correctly) takes you high into Southern Alps. There was a lot of rain on our trip (December 24-26). The rain made cascading waterfalls everywhere, which seems to be common for this area because there were bridges everywhere along the trail. One hiker we passed said “the mountains are crying”. It was spectacular.

Compared to remove backcountry hikes that I have been on, it was strange to come across the beautiful and well equipped huts along the way. As well as the random outhouses along the hike.  To find out more information on these huts and other information, check out the Routeburn Track Brochure. Routeburn Track Brochure

From Queenstown to the Routeburn Shelter, we used Track net. They also picked us up at the Divide and took us on to Milford Sound for our kayak adventure.
